We had not planned to spend the rest of the summer back home in Ireland. For one thing, Irish summers are cold and rainy. So why did we come home early?
I have been thinking a lot about the many different ways one can choose to live. We have both previously settled in a foreign country for years at a time (I lived in Prague from 2007-2012) and we have done the constantly moving, location independent thing. Which did we prefer? The answer is that neither have been 100% satisfying. When I am fully settled as an expat in a country, I feel weighed down and restless. When we are travelling full time, I often miss having easy access to things like my books, art supplies, or even something stupid like a blender. What is the answer?
We are going to buy a caravan, but not just any caravan. I have something very special in mind. I am going to fulfill a childhood dream and have an old style gypsy wagon built (with a few modern additions, of course). This is not going to happen quickly. The companies I have contacted about building a caravan (that can be towed by a car) require at least 5 months to finish one. My plan is to have it finished by the end of Spring 2016.
What about this blog? The blog is going to continue and I will actually be posting more frequently now, both about travel and working online. There are still a lot of places in Ireland that I have never visited and we have several trips outside of Ireland already planned for this autumn. I never posted as much about working online as I planned to because I was always too busy actually working on our business to write about it. This should change now.
I know that I have already done things that most people only dream about while working a job they hate. I have travelled more than most people will do in a lifetime and I am grateful that I have been able to do that but I want more. I want more art and music in my life. I want to finally sit down and write the books that I have always put off for another time because I had to find a way to earn a living. I want to drink red wine and read poetry while relaxing outside my caravan somewhere in the French countryside. I hope that some of you will be interested in following me on this new journey.
